Day 22: Fruit Monster, the healthy Cookie Monster

Today I woke up and had a horrible stomach ache. I went to the bathroom and had diarrhea. Gosh darn. It sucks. Especially with no toilet around. Anyway I was sad to leave but excited to see the others. Once I woke up, the parents and four girls and I started our drive to base camp. We didn’t go straight to camp though. We stopped in town to drop off some milk, wash the car and they even stopped to get me fruit. God I miss fruit. I’m gonna devour so much fruit when I get home, there will now be the Fruit Monster and a Cookie Monster. So you have a healthy and sweet option. Anyway, I stayed in the car for every stop because I was feeling sick and stuff.

Once we finally got to camp, everyone was already there. They started laughing and saying an army of Emory’s was coming because me and the girls were all wearing sweatpants, T-shirt’s and braids (which I did). Also we’re all tan and stuff. While I was here many people have thought I’m Mongolian. I guess I kinda look Mongolian cause of the hair, nose, eyes, height and skin tone. Anyway we dropped my stuff in the gur and I went to get them a present and say goodbye. I’m not the best at goodbyes since I don’t show too much emotions but I gave them hugs and said bye and thank you. I was sad to see them go. I’ve kinda gotten used to them even when I was homesick. Everyone was dropped off by the time I got there and we all caught up. Turns out many other people were sick too with diarrhea and barfing. Nick even had to go to Ulaanbaatar early because he was so sick. For lunch I just ate bread cause my stomach was so bad.

After lunch we all hung out and played BS and James Bond. Their getting better and I’m not winning all the time. It’s like seeing my students grow up but sometimes you still want to show em whose boss and now their making it harder. Gosh darn I’m too good at teaching. It was really nice to see them again. For dinner we had pasta. And not fried noodles but regular American pasta. It was so good. Except then we started talking about food we missed and it made me so hungry. While we ate it really felt like we were a family eating together and talking and laughing. I’m gonna miss these new friends so much. Anyway once we were finished with dinner we went on a long hike. It was great and all but the diarrhea was kinda buzz kill. I went before the hike but you know diarrhea, it just doesn’t quit. The whole time I had to go. It kinda puts a damper on your enjoyment of the hike. But the sunset was beautiful and it made the sky so colorful.

After the hike we hung out in the yurt for a little but decided to go outside to see the night sky and lightning. Soon it got cold and we decided to do a cuddle puddle. Usually I hate cuddling but this was really fun. One person was true base and we all laid around them on top of each other. I brought some blankets out and we all cuddled. We were laughing and talking and looking at the stars. It felt like I’ve known these people forever. The sky was absolutely breathtaking. I can’t describe it. You can never see that in the US with all the light pollution. It was one of the best nights here. We’ve all bonded so much. Mom, Dad heads up I’m gonna be going cause crazy when I get home for Snapchat so be prepared. After some cuddle puddle we all went to bed. It was such a fun, comfortable and familial night.
