Day 3 - I finally showered!!

My days are a little whacked up so I have no idea if this is actually day three and if my blogs are blogging one day or two.

Today we arrived in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia, at around noon. The airport is tiny so we make it to baggage claim fast and easily. The bags haven’t come out yet so I’m like “potty time!” I run to the toilet and come back, bags still not there. I’m thinking, “dude, patience is key, be Ugai.” So finally they let us look for our bags in the bag room. I can’t seem to find mine. I’m inside freaking out cause I should be able to find mine, it looks like a neon camping egg. Our group leaves the bag room and six of us, including Leah, one of our leaders, don’t have our bags. The Mongolian staff start figuring it out. I’m over my mini freak out by now and just trying to subtly smell my arm pits since I haven’t been able to shower or change since I left, so I kinda stink. We describe our bags and give them the baggage stickers; they say they’ll have our bags by tomorrow morning. I’m hoping.

Anyway after the airport fiasco, we get into the bus and head to the hotel. The staff are super nice and we go up to our rooms to drop off our stuff and pack a day pack. I’m rooming with Annabelle. She’s a really nice senior who was one of the six that doesn’t have their bags. We go down at around 1:15 for lunch. It’s pizza! They brought out two of every kind of pizza they made. So in total their was eight pizzas for fourteen people. They really bought into the American eating a lot stereotype. Which I totally understand. After my many slices of pizza (2), we all get in a bus to go to the biggest museum in Mongolia. It was nice but I was really tired so I couldn’t fully enjoy it. But I did see a Buddhist instrument that looked like a metal sombrero.

After the museum we went to the top of a thing that was made for the Russian and Mongolian soldiers. It was on top of hill win a beautiful view of the city and the mountains surrounding it. It also had a great breeze. It was so relaxing. I wanted to fall asleep up there. Unfortunately that’s not allowed and we moved onto the last activity for the night, the concert.

Now I feel super bad about this, but the concert was about an hour and a half and I was super tired. So I can’t actually tell you about the concert since I was asleep for most of it. So was almost our whole group. They seemed like very good performers I was just exhausted since I hadn’t actually had a good nights rest in two days or two years. Who knows.

Finally we went back to the hotel for dinner. We had Mongolian empanadas. They have a real name but I don’t know how to spell it. After dinner I took a nice warm shower and then face planted on the bed and slept forever. Unfortunately not forever but one can dream.
