Day 2 - Travel Day


Today we woke up at around 10 am for breakfast. I had a pretty good sleep. Only woke up a few times. Anyway after breakfast, the group met in this tiny little conference room. We went over rules and norms. I was mostly just sitting and people watching. But I did suggest we have a group safe word. I was gonna suggest “keep going” but none of them would’ve understood the meaning behind it. It ended up being “garlic bread” which is okay, I guess.

We also played two truths and a lie. I learned some funky stuff. Like Jill, one of supervisors, was on the wheel of fortune. I think I saw that show on Friends. After the meeting, we went to go play uno. I haven’t played in years, and after five minutes I remembered why. I am horrible at it. They kept changing the color to the one color I didn’t have. It was unbelievably unlucky, this is why I also never play monopoly. While I was losing horribly in uno with about a million cards in my hand, we were told the bus came early to take us to the airport.

At the airport we got in and onto the flight fairly easily. Yay. Step one complete. The flight was about 7 hours to Beijing. I watched a bunch of movies and played Wordscapes. I am on level 1240. Haha father! Also can you download Aquaman, for the future. Anyway, we get off the plane in Beijing. It’s about 5am but feels like time has stopped. All the flights are kinda screwing up my sense of time, so until I get to Mongolia, time has stopped. Once we get off and go to the front, they tell us we can’t get our tickets to Mongolia and we have to wait or do something. We ended up waiting and doing something. While we waited I got to watch the sunset through the window. We waited for who knows how long until we finally got temporary boarding passes and went through security. Fortunately we went through a private security with just us, unfortunately it was almost as fast as regular security, as in not fast. We finally cleared security and got on a bus to go to the gate. By this time I was pretty much a zombie, just walking and reading and following. Once we got to the gate and got our boarding passes we had about 10 minutes to sit before we boarded. Finally we are on the plane to Mongolia. And we get there in the morning. I know that seems good, yay we have a whole day to explore and stuff, but honestly with the long few days or weeks (who knows by know) of travel I would love to sit in a comfy hotel and sleep. Maybe read and enjoy some tea. Alas that is not possible, but I am very excited to finally be in Mongolia, in the capital, which has a very long name I rather not try to spell.

Day 4: Mongolian Acapella

Today is orientation day. I woke up at about 5am. Yay jet lag. We’re pretty much besties right about now. Anyway, I woke up early, in the same clothes as July 3rd might I add. Once I was awake, I watched Netflix before breakfast. I know we should be off our phones and socialize, but it was 5am and Brooklyn 99 is on Netflix here so yay! After I watched some Brooklyn 99, Annabelle and I went down to breakfast, which was pretty good. Everybody was still kinda waking up so we didn’t talk too much. After breakfast we went to the Mongolian Experiment headquarters. We walked and it was super nice. The weather is surprisingly cool and windy. That paired with some jamming music was so relaxing. Once we arrived at the headquarters, we went to the classroom they have there. First part of class: slideshows. It wasn’t a bad lecture, very informative. I even managed to stay awake. Day 11: The Day I rode Pumpkin, the pooping bus

Today was our travel day. So we had to ride horses all the way to Blue Pearl camp. The first part of the five hour ride was okay. My horse, Pumpkin, was dark brown and small. One of the guides held the leash for Pumpkin and led me. It was really rainy and cloudy. The clouds moved lower and lower throughout the trek. For the first hour or so I was just kinda sitting on my horse trying not to fall asleep. You’d think that I would be super energetic but here’s the issue: everyone by then had been able to ride by themselves without a guide holding onto their horse, but I was one of the last four people to have to be guided. So I wasn’t doing anything. I didn’t have to guide Pumpkin or make sure he was goin g a good speed, I just sat there getting really sore thighs. It was like riding an uncomfortable pooping bus named Pumpkin. No bueno. Day 12: Yak Alarms

Today was supposed to be our chill do whatever day but it didn’t exactly go as planned. I woke up to seagulls yelling and yaks snorting/farting right outside our yurt. Great alarm. It was really chilly so I just tacoed till breakfast. Breakfast was buffet style and really good. There was ramen out and Nutella that was also white chocolate. Yummy. I was chilling with my yummy breakfast, everything’s rainbows and unicorns except the weather, when Leah tells us we have to leave this afternoon because we don’t want to be flooded in. Total rainbow and unicorn killer.  After breakfast I went to go pack then, Annabelle, Nick, Nathalie, Madison and I went for a walk along the lake. It was kinda cold but relaxing just to be in the nature. I skipped some rocks and got my high score of six. Boom shakalaka. Then all my other rocks face planted. But I got six so my life is complete.
