Day 18: The Day I got cow turd in my bare eye

This morning I slept in and we watched some Korean TV. Leah and Marthla came to visit and check in this morning. Everything is going really well so it was just them talking to my host family. After they left, we had some breakfast. It was animal organs, which I’ve already tried and almost barfed up. So I decided to skip on that.

Later that morning there was a huge bug thingy on one of he blankets in the yurt. It was really funny because the older brother picked it up no problem and the girls were shrieking. I was internally shrieking. Anyway he started waving it by his wife who was shrieking and trying to get away. It was really funny. Finally Arvinkh took it outside. But it was one of those small memorable moments and also reminded me of how my family and their reactions to stuff like that. Like the lizard incident.

For the afternoon everyone was kinda just doing their own thing inside, so I took advantage and went outside to make a bracelet and listen to music. I love how the weather is sunny but windy and cool. While I sitting outside, I looked at my legs and thought “did I get paler while I was here?” You’d think in Mongolia you’d get super tan and it’s impossible to get paler, but I’ve always been good at achieving the impossible. Unfortunately the impossible this time isn’t the best. Late afternoon, we all played the Mongolian version of the card game, trash. They also showed me a magic trick. Super cool trick at that. Then their cousin came over for a sleepover. It reminded me of when we drop cooper off at our cousins when we don’t want to deal with him. Anyway, we did pushups, sit-ups, Mongolian sit-ups, arm wrestling and wrestling for a little. I won it all. Just like at home.

Before dinner we went to go check on the baby cows and get them in their pen. We had to ride bikes up and down hills to herd them. Not EBikes. We were going old school, not horses unfortunately, but regular bikes. So tiring. But great weather. For dinner, we had something that reminded me of the thing Dad made from the Egyptian spices. It was good. Like soupish rice with meat and seaweed. After dinner I went to pick up cow turds again. I was just picking up a dried cow turd when some flew into my eye! The only thing is worse than picking up cow turd with your bare hands is getting cow turd in your bare eyes! Cooper and Sydney you definitely can’t complain. On our way back with the turds we saw the sister in law using the fire tongs to pick up a huge bug, bring it out far from the yurts and kill it. Brave of her.

After all that stuff went down, we rode some bikes and made some bracelets and soon enough it was dark. As soon as it gets too dark you need a flashlight, they go in for bed. The grownups are still herding and the sister in law is taking care of the kids. Tonight I slept in the bed again with one of the girls. I watched a Brooklyn 99 episode and went to bed.
